Information about baseball in Mazatlán

  Baseball in Mazatlán
  • The Mazatlán baseball team is called the Venados. They play in the Mexican league which runs from October to January. The level of play is about Triple A. They are allowed a few non-Mexicans on the roster.
  • The Venados play in the baseball stadium which is in Frac. Estadio (Stadium neighborhood). The baseball stadium is a couple of blocks from the Malecon behind the Gran Plaza mall. You can take the Sabalo Centro bus and walk. Get off the bus at the first stop light south of Valentinos. Walk up the cross street and turn right. Go until you hit the next main street then turn right. The stadium is a couple of blocks south. You should see the stadium lights.
  • Tickets range in price from US$1.50 to US$10...very reasonable.
  • I went to a game in Oct 2007. I bought a ticket at the ticket window (south side of stadium) for 80 pesos (US$8.00). My ticket was above the Venados dugout. The atmosphere was great. Lots of beer and food being sold by vendors. Unfortunately for me, the man behind me was drunk and spilled a beer on my back. The stadium wasn't very full when the game started, but by the 4th inning it filled up considerably. The first 2 innings took over 1 hour to play with Mazatlán losing by a number of runs. Mazatlán made it a close game later, but eventually lost. Overall, it was a good experience. I would recommend going to the baseball game for a cheap evening out.
