General Hotel Information
  • There are a few different areas of tourist hotels in Mazatlán.
  • The Golden Zone (Zona Dorada) is the main tourist zone and has hotels that are about 15-20 years old.
  • The Malecon strip of hotels are the older hotels that are about 20-40 years old.
  • The Malecon is the seawall that stretches for 5-10 miles along the beach.

Hotel Los Sabalos
  • Located in the Golden Zone. Home of Joe's Oyster Bar.
  • Located right on the beach.
  • Room rates are moderate, over US$100 per night.
  • The swimming pool is small, but nice.
  • Mainly Mexican tourists, but quite a few Canadians and Americans.
  • I have never stayed at the hotel, but the rooms are supposed to be fine.

Hotel Playa Mazatlán
    Located in the Golden Zone right next door to Joe's Oyster Bar.
  • Located right on the beach.
  • Room rates are moderate, over US$100 per night.
  • The Canadian consulate has an office in the hotel complex.
  • The US Consulate has an office across the street.
  • I normally recommend this hotel to people on their first trip to Mazatlán.
  • I have stayed at the hotel many times. It is clean and safe. Rooms are average.
  • The swimming pool is good for doing laps.
  • The restaurant is a little pricy, but excellent. Especially, the breakfast buffet.
  • Mainly Canadian and American tourists.
  • Famous for it's rocking chairs. A good place to sit back, read, and rock.
  • Be sure to check out the pictures of the hotel when it first opened as a motel. Pictures are located on the way to the restaurant.

Azteca Inn
  • Located in the Golden Zone. Across the street from the Hotel Playa Mazatlán
  • Located across the street from the beach.
  • Room rates are low-medium.
  • Rooms are very basic.
  • Mainly Canadian and American tourists.

Hotel D'Gala Mazatlán
  • Located in the Golden Zone across from the Hotel Playa Mazatlan.
  • Located across the street from the beach.
  • Newly renovated. Not sure how the rooms are.

Hotel Mariana
  • Located at the north end of the Golden Zone.
  • Located right on the beach.
  • Room rates are low. Remember that generally you get what you pay for.
  • It appears that they also have apartments for rent as for the sign. Not sure if the apartments are associated with the hotel or not.

Balboa Towers
  • Located in the Golden Zone near the Hotel Costa De Oro
  • Located on the beach.

El Cid
  • Located at the north end of the Golden Zone.
  • Located right on the beach.
  • Room rates are moderate, over US$100 per night.
  • The swimming pool is the largest and best in Mazatlán. It has a small water slide and swim up bar.
  • There are 2 sections to the hotel: El Moro tower and El Castillo.
  • El Moro is the newer and nicer tower of the hotel.
  • El Castillo is the older, more basic part of the hotel.
  • When I stayed in the El Castillo, it was ok, but I didn't like the bare lightbulb in the shower!

Hotel San Diego
  • Located at the south end of the Golden Zone.
  • Located across the street from the beach.
  • Roomrates are low, approximately US$40 per night.
  • Rooms are very, very small, just a bed, tv, and bathroom.
  • This hotel is only for the real budget traveller.
  • Located at the busiest intersection in the Golden Zone so noise may be an issue.

Hotel Costa De Oro
  • Located in the north of the Golden Zone.
  • Located right on the beach.
  • Room rates are moderate, over US$100 per night.
  • Rooms are fine.
  • I have stayed in one of the suites and it was very nice.
  • The swimming pool is big and quite nice.
  • Good pool-side bar.
  • The restaurant is nice, but everytime I eat there the cutlery is dirty!

The Inn at Mazatlan
  • Located in the north of the Golden Zone.
  • Located right on the beach.

Las Flores Beach Resort
  • Located in the middle of the Golden Zone.
  • Located right on the beach.
  • Room rates are moderate, over US$100 per night.
  • Currently, they is a lot of construction going on at the hotel so I don't know what the rooms are like now.
  • Before, the rooms were fine.
  • Noise, especially during spring break, is a problem as it echos up the atrium of the hotel.

Las Palmas
  • Located in the middle of the Golden Zone.
  • Located 1 block from the beach.
  • Room rates are moderate to low, over US$70 per night.
  • I have stayed here a number of times. The rooms are fine.
  • The pool was very nice, but it appears that they have filled it in now. Not sure if they have a new pool.

Royal Villas
  • Located in the middle of the Golden Zone.
  • Located right on the beach.
  • Room rates are moderate, over US$100 per night.
  • Probably, the nicest hotel in Mazatlán.
  • The rooms are extravagant, each with a view of the ocean.
  • The swimming pool is small and has a black colored bottom. Kind of different!

Emporio
  • Located at the south end of the Golden Zone.
  • Formerly called the Riviera Hotel
  • Located right on the beach.
  • Room rates are moderate, over US$100 per night.
  • The rooms are fine.
  • I stayed in one of the suites overlooking the beach once. It was huge.
  • The swimming pool is ok. It appears they filled in a part of it.

Aguamarina
  • Located on the Malecon strip of hotels.
  • Located across the street from the beach.
  • Roomrates are low, approximately US$40 per night.
  • Mainly Mexican tourists.
  • Rooms are very basic.
  • It is an older hotel so the rooms are less secure.

  • Located in the golden zone.
  • newly renovated
